Statement on the Signing of the Contract for the Construction of the Julyana Sugar Factory – Benghazi

A significant milestone for Libya's industrial development: Julyana Sugar Company and BMA have signed the contract for the construction of state-of-the-art sugar factory with a minimum processing capacity of 2,500 t/d in Benghazi. The project will strengthen local sugar production, enhance national food security, create skilled jobs, know-how transfer, and support the long-term growth of Libya's manufacturing sector.

As part of a new strategic step aimed at supporting industrial development and strengthening food security in Libya, a contract has been signed for the construction of the Julyana Sugar Factory in Benghazi between Julyana Sugar Company and the German company BMA, one of the world’s leading companies specializing in sugar industry technologies, engineering, and manufacturing.

The project aims to establish a fully integrated sugar production facility in the Julyana area of Benghazi, with a production capacity of 2,500 tons per day, under an implementation and commissioning program extending over a period of 24 months.

The contract was signed by Eng. Mohamed Ben Attia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Julyana Sugar Company, and Mr. Uwe Altena, Director of BMA. The signing marks the project’s transition into the actual implementation phase and the commencement of work toward transforming it into a modern industrial facility in accordance with the latest standards and specialized technologies in the sugar industry.

The project forms part of a broader vision aimed at localizing the sugar industry in Libya, reducing dependence on imports, and strengthening national food security, while establishing local production capabilities capable of meeting the future needs of the Libyan market and creating opportunities for access to regional and international markets.

The Julyana Sugar Factory also represents a significant industrial investment for Benghazi and Libya as a whole, with the potential to contribute to stimulating economic activity, creating employment opportunities, transferring modern industrial knowledge, expertise, and technology, and supporting the development of the country’s food-processing industry.

The signing of this contract marks the beginning of a new phase of work and implementation and reflects a firm commitment to transforming this ambitious project from a strategic vision into a major national industrial facility based in Benghazi, contributing to the growth of the Libyan economy and the enhancement of its productive capabilities.

بيان بشأن توقيع عقد إنشاء مصنع سكر جليانة – بنغازي

في خطوة استراتيجية جديدة لدعم التنمية الصناعية وتعزيز الأمن الغذائي في ليبيا، تم توقيع عقد إنشاء مصنع سكر جليانة بمدينة بنغازي بين شركة سكر جليانة وشركة BMA الألمانية، إحدى الشركات العالمية المتخصصة في تقنيات وهندسة وصناعة السكر.

ويهدف المشروع إلى إنشاء مصنع متكامل في منطقة جليانة بمدينة بنغازي، بطاقة إنتاجية تبلغ 2,500 طن يومياً، ووفق برنامج تنفيذ وتجهيز يمتد لمدة 24 شهراً.

وقد تم توقيع العقد بين المهندس محمد بن عطية، رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة سكر جليانة، والسيد اوفا التينا مدير شركة BMA الألمانية، بما يمثل انتقال المشروع إلى مرحلة التنفيذ الفعلي وبدء العمل على تحويله إلى منشأة صناعية حديثة وفق المعايير والتقنيات المتخصصة في صناعة السكر.

ويأتي المشروع ضمن رؤية تهدف إلى توطين صناعة السكر في ليبيا، وتقليص الاعتماد على الاستيراد، وتعزيز الأمن الغذائي الوطني، إلى جانب بناء قدرات إنتاجية محلية قادرة على تلبية احتياجات السوق الليبي مستقبلاً، وتهيئة الفرص للوصول إلى الأسواق الإقليمية والدولية.

كما يمثل مصنع سكر جليانة استثماراً صناعياً مهماً لمدينة بنغازي وليبيا بشكل عام، لما يمكن أن يسهم به في دعم النشاط الاقتصادي، وخلق فرص العمل، ونقل المعرفة والخبرات والتكنولوجيا الصناعية الحديثة، وتطوير قطاع الصناعات الغذائية.

ويمثل توقيع العقد بداية مرحلة جديدة من العمل والتنفيذ، والتزاماً بتحويل هذا المشروع من رؤية طموحة إلى صرح صناعي وطني ينطلق من بنغازي ويسهم في دعم الاقتصاد الليبي وتعزيز قدراته الإنتاجية.
